Biography

* Experimental filmmaker with production, editing, and teaching experience in non-profit and educational institutions

* Master of Fine Arts, Film and Media Arts, Temple University 2003

Nora Malone received her MFA, Film and Media Arts, from Temple University in 2003, where she produced a body of 16mm experimental film work. Her first film, Drinking Raoule, was screened and awarded at festivals and broadcast on WHYY Philadelphia. Her thesis film, Dreams of Jagodina, workshopped in IFP New York’s Project involve, broadcast on WYBE Philadelphia, and is distributed by Women Make Movies, Inc. Her work has been supported by grants from Temple University, Philadelphia Independent Film and Videomakers Association, and WHYY Philadelphia.

Despite the pang it caused her liberal left wing consciousness, she directed and edited morbidly fascinating DARPA-sponsored tech videos at the University of Pennsylvania after graduating 2003-06. To redeem her soul after receiving paychecks ultimately traced back to George W. Bush, she risked bullets shooting, pun intended, in Haiti during the US overthrow of Aristide, and in the Palestinian West Bank.

Currently based in Brooklyn, she’s completing her first feature documentary, 13 Miles from Jerusalem, which juxtaposes American media coverage with events as seen through her camera lens in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The film is fiscally sponsored by Women Make Movies, Inc.

Meanwhile, she works as an indefatigable freelance videographer and assistant editor. Pretty pictures and moody lighting are her specialty. But she’s not adverse to PA, boom, etc., general schlepping, generally with a smile.
